Majid Khadduri

1908-2007

He was born in Mosul, and he completed his elementary, intermediate and preparatory studies there. He graduated from the Higher Teachers College in Baghdad in1928 He also received a Bachelor of Arts from the American University in Beirut in 1932 and a doctorate in literature from the University of Chicago in 1938 He returned to Iraq to work as a teacher at the Higher Teachers College. In 1945 he served in the Department of Foreign Affairs and he was a member of the Iraqi delegation to the United Nations Conference in San Francisco, 1945 In 1947-1948 he was a visiting professor at the University of Indiana, and between the years 1949 and 1980 he settled in the Johns Hopkins University. He visited Cairo and worked as a professor at the American University in 1972-1973 He also visited Baghdad and Basra, and delivered lectures there in 1976 He was one of the founders of the University of Libya and its president in 1957 He wrote more than 30 books, including: Liberation of Iraq from Mandate” in 1935 the Diplomatic Links between Harun Al-Rashid and Charlemagne’ in 1939 Arab Political Figures in 1981, and others.
