Jan Alkhas

1907-1969

Poet was born in Urmia, Iran in 1907. In 1918 he moved with his big brother Addai Alkhas to Tabriz to join the Catholic school of the French missionaries where he learnt and perfected the French language then studied the French literature. He perfected English and Persian. He affected with senior French poets and was liked with Budelair and Verlin . In some of his books he was liked with senior Sufi poets such as Al-Shirazi and Al-Rumi . The name and activity of Alkhas have been associated with Gilgamesh magazine which issued in Tehran (1952-1961)- he is one of the founders with his brother Addai Alkhas-( writer and historian) also with Namrod Simono -( writer and linguistic). The feature that singled him among his contemporaries is: his description of the nature at the forefront of all his poems and then entering into the heart of the poem. He was described the homeless wanderer poet and died poor “destitute”. Of his works: the divan of “from the memories .of being homeless”,a play in three acts. And a number “of children’s songs
