Folos Gabriel

1912-1971

Poet, prose writer and translator was born in Kharbot (Turkey), he immigrated to Adana and then to Beirut where he completed his studies. He perfected Syriac, Arabic, French, and English. He graduated from the American Collegei he was appointed a director of the Syriac orphanage in Beirut then a teacher at the College of Arts-Lebanese University. He issued with Camil Afram Al-Bustani a series of books were printed in Beirut to teach Syriac language and literature at the Lebanese University as: The basis and reading (1964)/ the texts and grammar (1965)/ the literature and grammar (1966) / and the Syric arts (1966), also he had a collection of poems in Syriac. As well as he translated with Ghattas Makdisi Elias the novel of Paul and Virginie from French into Syriac, Beirut 1955, also he translated from Shakespeare and from .”French literature – “poetry and prose
