In continuation of their well-known historical role in this art, from Sumer, Babylon and Assyria, the Syriacs played a major and important pioneering role in the musical arts of all kinds. Many of them excelled, whether in the field of making or playing musical instruments, as well as composing and composing music. Musical and lyrical groups were formed among them, and composers, musicians and academic professors emerged as pioneers in this field.
Many of these pioneers were deacons, studying music and learning to play in private Christian schools that were widespread in Iraq in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Dominican fathers in Mosul had a prominent pioneering role in this, as the names of the most prominent pioneers are associated with them, including Iskandar al-Zoghbi (1838-1912), the blind teacher of music in their school in Mosul. Later on, Hanna Awad, Saeed Shabo, Jamil Bashir, Mounir Bashir and others emerged.
The Syriac Heritage Museum highlights the most prominent musical pioneers and features important details from their most prominent creations.
