Lewis (Louis ) Zanbaka

1929_؟

He is a Trombone player and music composer. He was born in Baghdad . He was a graduate of the Institute of Fine Arts, and a music player in the Iraqi Symphony Orchestra and a teacher of music . He is credited with authoring the first republican anthem of Iraq, and he is the only Iraqi who took part in authoring the former royal anthem ( written by the British Colonel Konfled ) and several republican anthems Later (such as “Wallah Zaman Ya Silahi” of the composer Kamal Altaweel, and after that the Iraqi national anthem ” Watanun Madda, melodized by the Lebanese composer walid Ghuleimah ). He was pursuing his academic studies of music in Vienna when he wrote the Iraqi republican anthem. It is known that in the early seventies when a competition was announced for composing a new republican anthem (because the republican anthem had changed after the 1963 coup when Zanbaqa was working in the management of the Iraqi Symphony Orchestra ) that he rejected the whole idea of the competition and participation , because he thought that the republican anthem that he had written and was adopted in 1958 was not devoted to a particular regime, but to the republican Iraq. Lewis Zanbaqa was, in fact, correct in his view ,since the republican anthem he wrote was restored to be a musical symbol of Iraq after the fall of the dictatorship in Iraq in 2003.
