Oughnatios Ya’aqub III

1912-1980

Researcher historian and poet, was born in Bartulla, Nineveh and studied at St. Matti Monastery in1923. In 1931 he became a teacher of Syriac in Beirut, then sent to India in 1933 where he was ordained a priest, he was appointed headmaster of St. Oughnatios cleric school in Almalbar for 12 years. In 1964 he came back to Bartulla and worked as a teacher of Aframic cleric in Mosul. In 1950 he became abishop of Mosul archbishop. From his books: (in Syriac) the divan of “Selected Poems” Aleppo 1959 / the history of Antaky Syriac Church (2V.) and the historical articles. (In Arabic) the flows of perfume in the history of St. Matti monastery , Zahla1961 / Himyarite Arabs martyrs in the Syriac documents, Damascus, 1966 / obvious facts in the historical literary and philosophical research, Damascus 1972 / the dispersed pearls in the proverbs, 1969 / Al-Kindi and Syriac ,1963 / the tangible proofs about borrowing between Syriac and Arabic, Damascus, 1969.
