He was an archaeologist. He was born in Mosul, where he complet his primary and Secondary studies. He received the English Certificate of Matriculation at the Palestinian College of Safad, and then his BA and MA in Archaeology and Ancient Languages at the University of Chicago. He returned to trag in 1938. He worked as a lecturer in the Higher Teachers College in Baghdad in 1941, and at the same time he was employed at the General Directorate of Antiquities. He played an important role in the establishment of the Department of Archaeology in the College of Arts University of Baghdad in 1981 1952. In 1956 he was entrusted with the inspectorate of archaeological excavations. In 1958 he was appointed General Director of Antiquities. He also supervis automospine Sumer theses in the field of archeology.
